Today's market place for weight loss and dieting products is flooded with supplements that claim to help the consumer lose weight quick and easy. But how many are actually approved by the FDA to do exactly that? Unfortunately, not many. Most of these pills are sold by companies that do not plan to keep them on the market long because they know that they cannot backup their claims with scientific evidence, and because of this, their product will be removed from sale by either the FDA or the FTC. These companies operate for short term gain, trying to fleece as many consumers as possible and make as much money as possible before they are forced to close. Many peddle hunger suppressant pills. This does not mean there does not exist proven weight loss drugs that are approved by government regulatory bodies. It's just a matter of knowing that not all of them can be publicly disclosed by the companies producing them. The educated consumer has access to these drugs that the general public never knows about.
When a drug is submitted by a pharmaceutical company to the FDA for approval, the company must state among other things, the intended purpose of the drug. For example, we will say that company X has submitted a drug for the treatment of hair loss. After the drug has gone under a variety of tests and is ready for approval, the FDA and the drug company work together to write the correct wording that will appear on the label of the drug's packaging. This label will give various information such as warnings, dosage, and the intended usage of the drug. If company X submitted their drug to cure hair loss, they are then prohibited from marketing that drug for any other purpose.
